Why did the Turtle Cross the Road?

Here are a few pics of a turtle who was either just coming back from crossing Whitby Shores Greenway (at Portage by the pond) or on her way to cross the street.

She was gorgeous! First time I've ever seen one that big and that old.

A few people stopped to admire her and to comment that she was probably returning from laying her eggs.

A brave soul dropped by and picked her up and gave her an escort back to the pond.

Does anyone have any in-depth turtle knowledge to share?
